Visit the Museum and enjoy a day at the beach!
The Village of Niantic, on the town of East Lyme's scenic shoreline, is home to the Children's Museum of Southeastern Connecticut.
Hit the beach! Visitors who have paid admission – and of course, our members – can request a morning or afternoon beach pass to one of East Lyme's town beaches. McCook's Park Beach has a playground, pavilion, picnic tables, and grills. Just up the shore is Hole-in-the-Wall Beach with direct access to the Niantic Bay Boardwalk! Both beaches are just a hop, skip and a jump from the Museum, too!
The pass includes a Beach Kit for families to borrow: a sand bucket, shovel, and other fun beach accessories. Beach passes and kits are limited and are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Member benefit: Our Members can call ahead to reserve the pass.
Summer Fun on the Run! For families ready to discover the history of our coastal town, the Museum offers the "Summer Fun on the Run! The East Lyme Scavenger Hunt". There are 11 stops around town where "hunters" can spot historical treasures. Did you bring your camera? Great! Take a picture of you and your family at one of the spots and share it with us!
Get a Snack or Tasty Treat! Hungry after your Museum visit? Niantic has lots of great family-friendly restaurants. Just ask at the front desk to see our booklet of menus.
Unique shopping! Boutiques, bakeries, bookstores - a little bit of everything! A favorite stop for shoreline shopping is just down the street from the Museum at Grace - a coastal lifestyle shop. Did your favorite pup make the trip? Pick up something special at Must Love Dogs right next door to Grace! Why not round out your day in Niantic with a visit to a one-of-a-kind bookstore? The Book Barn is just down the road with animals for the kids, used books priced just right and interesting little out-buildings to mosey around in. Check out all that East Lyme has to offer at Discover East Lyme's website!
Come to the shoreline and make a day of it!
